É já amanhã o concerto tão aguardado pelos fãs de Moonspell, no Campo Pequeno, onde serão apresentados pela primeira vez os temas dos seus novos álbuns Alpha Noir e Omega White. Hoje sai o novo vídeo para a música “White Skies” e aproveitando esse pretexto assim como a proximidade do concerto, fizemos uma breve entrevista ao vocalista Fernando Ribeiro:
SFTD: Já muito foi falado sobre os álbuns Alpha Noir e Omega White, inclusivé que este último é assumidamente um álbum de tributo às referências musicais dos Moonspell. No entanto, na sua concepção, enquanto construíam uma música, pensavam numa determinada banda e trabalhavam a partir daí ou as músicas iam saindo naturalmente do caldeirão de influências?
SFTD: Praticamente todos os álbuns da banda têm tido temas que oscilam entre o peso intenso e outros calmos e melódicos. Foi com intencionalidade de separar as águas que fizeram deste novo trabalho dois discos distintos, sendo o Alpha Noir um dos mais intensos e viscerais e o outro talvez o mais melódico e transversal?
FR: Sim. O facto de termos plantado as sementes em terras diferentes, também nos permitiu ir a esses extremos com ambos os discos. Tínhamos espaço para mais poder e também para mais melancolia. Daí eu ter falado sempre da liberdade que nos deu este principio criativo que nos convenceu a nós e que se tornou todo o conceito dos discos.
SFTD: Relativamente ao baixista Don Aires, que vos acompanha na estrada há alguns anos, foi dito na vossa apresentação dos álbuns, que teve uma forte participação neste trabalho. Foi este o momento da integração completa de Aires na banda? Como foi esta evolução?
SFTD: Depois do impacto do vosso vídeo Lickanthrope dirigido pelo Filipe Melo e que contou com uma grande equipa, o que podemos esperar agora deste novo vídeo do tema White Skies? Quais as diferenças mais significativas? Acham que poderá superar as expectativas após um trabalho tão bem realizado e complexo?
FR: O White Skies beneficiou também de um realizador incrível, de uma equipa incansável e visionária que nos permitiu ter um vídeo diferente que espelha o conceito Omega e que, na minha opinião, não fica, apesar das diferentes naturezas, atrás nem do Lickanthrope, nem de qualquer outro vídeo que fizemos até agora. O vídeo estreia esta Sexta 11 por isso venham as opiniões. A nossa é de que é um vídeo fabuloso, tal como a da Lick, e por ambos estamos gratos ao Filipe, à sua equipa, ao Victor e também à sua equipa, sublinho, verdadeiros heróis.
SFTD: Queres deixar alguma mensagem para aqueles que ainda estão em dúvida para o concerto no próximo sábado?
Ainda em antevisão do concerto podemos recordar o que já foi dito que acontecerá amanhã. Os dois novos álbuns vão ser tocados na íntegra em partes distintas. A primeira parte será composta pelos temas de Alpha Noir, num palco que pretende recriar o peso deste e que será de puro metal, como nos grandes concertos de heavy metal que passaram pelo nosso país e a que os Moonspell assistiram na sua adolescência, como que numa homenagem a estes. A segunda parte será dedicada a Omega White e contará com a presença das Crystal Mountain Singers e dos Opus Diabolicum. O palco será transformado por completo, primando esta apresentação pela forte componente visual, no entanto a luz e cor serão completamente diferentes da parte inicial. Conforme confirmado por Fernando Ribeiro, em cada uma destas partes serão incluídos temas mais antigos e que fazem parte da história da banda, criteriosamente seleccionados para se enquadrarem em cada um dos ambientes. Será certamente um “momentum” a não perder.

Fernando Ribeiro: We divide the concert into two parts that seek to recreate musically and visually the concept of this dual experience. Obviously, we include in each part repertoire from the past, the fans classics. I myself do not see a Moonspell concert without Alma Mater or Opium. It would be almost a sacrilege, despite the emphasis and the confidence we have in these new themes. So it was a curious experience dividing the waters passed between Alpha and Omega.
SFTD: Much has been said about the album Alpha Omega Noir and White, such as the latter is admittedly a tribute album to the musical references of Moonspell. However, in your view, when constructing a song, have the band thought of a particular band and worked from there or the songs came out naturally from your cauldron of influences?
FR: Our influences are evident and we have nothing other than gratitude for bands like Tiamat, Samael, Type O Negative, Sisters of Mercy, Fields. But we like to think that people listen to us because we know add our touch to these musical roots. What we mean by taxes, is not in any way, make versions of themes from other bands in Omega. Rather, we want to do original songs that try to perpetuate the feeling that these bands caused and still cause. For this serves the music, to value what is eternal and important to us. The thought that people around the world can have feelings similar to those we had to listen to discs Bathory or Celtic Frost in his time, are our most primal force that allows us this year to celebrate our twentieth anniversary with a new album and a concert instead of a compilation and one concert event.

The two new albums will be played in full in separate parts. The first part is composed of the themes of Alpha Noir, on stage to recreate the weight of which will be of pure metal, as in the great concerts of heavy metal that passed through our country and that Moonspell attended in his teen years, as in a tribute to these bands. The second part is dedicated to Omega White and will feature the Crystal Mountain Singers and Opus Diabolicum.
